Position Summary

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge, employing the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. This involves utilizing the nursing process to assess patient needs, develop a plan of care, implement nursing interventions, and evaluate patient care outcomes across all age populations, from neonates to geriatrics. The position may require scheduled on-call assignments influenced by emergency department patient volumes due to community events.

License/Certification/Registration

• Current Registered Nurse licensure in Pennsylvania.
• Meets the American Heart Association standards for Healthcare Provider BLS, renewed every two years.
• Meets the American Heart Association standards for Healthcare Provider ACLS, renewed every two years.
• Meets the American Heart Association standards for Healthcare Provider PALS, renewed every two years.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Triages every patient entering the emergency care system, determining priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow.
• Conducts hourly rounding within the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room as needed.
• Document in-depth nursing history, including chief complaint and health care status.
• Develops and implements an ongoing plan of care based on continuous assessments.
• Ensures necessary supplies and equipment for emergency patient care are available and functional.
• Manages complications and emergencies following established policies and ENA standards.
• Documents and responds to patient reactions to interventions, facilitating competent medical care.
• Provides health education to emergency department patients and their families, ensuring understanding of treatment and discharge instructions.
