Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care through the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  • Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
  • Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
  • Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates the developmental level of the patient and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance in revising the plan of care when necessary.
  • Engages with interdisciplinary team members in evaluating patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required for the patient care plan.
  • Follows healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivering care.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • Develops goals to promote professional growth, adjusting as necessary.
  • Achieves set goals within established timeframes or renegotiates with supervisor.
  • Facilitates collaboration within and between departments.
  • Contributes to unit goals and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
  • Provides feedback to co-workers and remains aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes and synthesizes complex data to prioritize care.
  • Includes physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
  • Anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Builds relationships with families to enhance their ability to advocate for patient needs.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
  • Employs effective communication to convey planning strategies.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrates prioritization skills for complex patient needs.
• Research:
  • Engages with relevant literature to enhance practice.
  • Brings ideas and inquiries to the team for collaborative assessment.

Required Skills & Experience

• One (1) year of nursing experience.

Education

• Required Education:
  • Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing program.
• Preferred Education:
  • BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
