Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Float Pool provides professional nursing care to patients across various units within the hospital while adhering to the organization’s mission and values. This role encompasses delivering comprehensive care, documentation, and collaboration with healthcare teams to ensure a safe and effective patient experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Render professional nursing care to patients assigned within the float pool and carry out orders from the responsible healthcare provider.
• Document patient care thoroughly, including care plans, ensuring continuity and safety in patient management.
• Communicate patient information effectively through bedside shift reports, multidisciplinary rounds, and hourly rounding using appropriate strategies such as AIDET.
• Participate in unit-specific competency training and complete net learning modules within defined timeframes.
• Promote a culture of well-being by actively reducing alarm fatigue and fostering a positive department atmosphere.
• Ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff by adhering to established procedures and protocols.
• Identify and address patient care safety issues, promoting a Just Culture to enhance error reporting and safety practices.
• Engage in daily unit-based safety huddles and remain informed on nurse-sensitive indicators to improve patient outcomes.
• Participate in quality initiatives and performance improvement projects, supporting collaborative nursing efforts across departments.
• Assist new nurses by serving as a preceptor and providing guidance as needed.
• Contribute to department readiness for DNV survey and engage in the employee engagement survey process.
• Comply with policies regarding overtime and the management of earned time off (ETO).
• Complete required dysrhythmia courses before concluding orientation, especially for telemetry departments.
• Maintain current nursing licensure and certifications as per departmental requirements.

Job Requirements

Job Knowledge and Skills

• Basic dysrhythmia knowledge preferred or to be obtained during orientation.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or to be obtained during orientation.

Education and Experience

• Current New Hampshire RN license is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Graduate of an approved nursing program is preferred.

Shift Information

Days, 7 AM to 7 PM. Holiday coverage may be required.

Minimum Years of Experience

At least 3 years of nursing experience is required.

Certifications / Requirements

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS) certification is required.
