Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  • Participates in identifying and meeting personal learning needs.
  • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes relevant patient education materials.
  • Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance as needed to revise the plan of care.
  • Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems.
  • Performs bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plans.
  • Utilizes organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex issues.
• Leadership:
  • Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations.
  • Achieves goals and objectives within identified timeframes.
  • Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Effectively uses communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
  • Provides feedback to co-workers and is aware of public policy affecting healthcare.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
  • Assesses physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful information prior to communication.
  • Anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families to empower advocacy for their needs.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
  • Employs full-range communication to convey planning details.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Research:
  • Reads professional journals for applicable studies or articles.
  • Brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Skills and Experience

• Required Skills & Experience:
  • One (1) year of nursing experience.
• Preferred Skills & Experience:

Education

• Required Education:
  • Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred Education:
  • BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
