Shift Information

This position offers variable shifts with hours worked per two-week period. There is no guarantee of hours or shift preference.

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of critical care nursing experience (ER & ICU) in a hospital setting, which may substitute for direct PACU experience.
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association are required.
• A valid professional nursing license within the state of practice is required.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is recommended and may be required for certain positions.
• Additional specialty-related certifications (e.g., NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)) are preferred and may be required for specific roles.

Job Description

The PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for providing post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgery. This role entails:

• Caring for patients during pre-operative, Phase I, and Phase II recovery stages.
• Demonstrating advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and patient care in Phase I recovery.
• Assessing incision sites, monitoring body temperature, and tracking other indicators of stability or potential complications.
• Utilizing critical thinking skills to make informed decisions based on patient assessments and changing conditions.

• Meditech
• PCA Pumps
• Pyxis
• Braun IV Pumps
• Cryocuff
• Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
• Bair Paws Warmers
• HP Monitors
• Philips Monitors

Shift and Holiday Requirements

• Shifts may vary between 8, 10, and 12-hour formats and can include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Holiday coverage is required.

Additional Notes

Travelers who do not currently possess a valid state nursing license in Hawaii must apply for it upon acceptance of the job offer. Proof of flu vaccination or a facility-approved medical or religious exemption will be required before the contract start date.
