Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process within a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  • Identifies and addresses personal learning needs.
  • Attends educational programs based on these identified needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
  • Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance for potential revisions of the care plan.
  • Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care evaluation.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex needs, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point of care testing as necessary for patient care planning.
  • Adheres to healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures when delivering care.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
  • Consults appropriate resources timely for complex care issues and discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • Collaborates with supervisors to develop professional growth goals.
  • Achieves or renegotiates goals within specified timeframes.
  • Understands activities that foster collaboration within and between departments.
  • Contributes to the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Uses communication systems effectively.
  • Promotes cost-effective care practices.
  • Provides feedback to co-workers.
  • Stays informed of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
  • Ensures a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients and staff.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Identifies key data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
  • Addresses physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into cohesive information prior to communication with others.
  • Anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and their families.
  • Builds relationships with families to empower them as advocates for their patients' needs.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to create or update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources effectively in care planning.
  • Employs diverse communication methods to convey planning information.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs.
• Research:
  • Engages with current journals and articles relevant to nursing practice.
  • Presents ideas and questions to staff for collective assessment of applicability.

Required Skills & Experience

• One (1) year of nursing experience.

Education

• Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.
