Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Stroke/Neuro PCU will provide specialized care for patients in a telemetry setting, focusing on the management of hospitalist medicine patients, particularly those experiencing strokes and neurological issues. This role requires the application of advanced nursing skills and knowledge in a fast-paced environment.
Shift Details
- Shift Type: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45 AM - 07:15 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: May be every other weekend or a total of 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management.
- Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood products, and provide care for central and peripheral lines.
- Manage medication administration, including cardiac drips (without titration).
- Provide respiratory support via nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management.
- Utilize isolation precautions and monitor telemetry settings in PCU, IMC, and stepdown units.
Unit Information
This 12 West unit specializes in telemetry care and is recognized as a certified primary stroke center. The typical nurse-patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4. A focus on effective team collaboration and patient safety is essential for success in this position.
Floating Requirement
The RN may be required to float within their skill set as needed to meet patient care demands.
Qualifications
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.
- Experience in neuro PCU is essential.
- Strong skills in cardiac monitoring and emergency response.
- Competence in medication administration and IV therapy.
- Ability to manage isolation precautions effectively.
Additional Information
- Experience with Epic charting is preferred.
- First-time travelers are accepted; previous travel experience is preferred.
- Pending licenses may be accepted if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state. Active Virginia State or Compact RN license is required for submission.
