Job Summary

The Mammography Technologist performs a variety of diagnostic and screening procedures related to mammography in the field of radiologic and breast imaging. This role includes the preparation and administration of contrast media and medications in compliance with state and federal guidelines, as well as conducting patient assessments and providing instruction for self-breast examination.

Job Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe and appropriate environment for procedures, including equipment checks, cleanliness, and appropriate stocking of supplies.
• Utilize technical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment and protocol issues actively.
• Document incidents and communicate opportunities for improvement to the supervisor.
• Verify patient demographics, emulsion markers, and examination requests.
• Critique, orient, and save all pertinent images, ensuring transmission to PACS.
• Maintain image management equipment and report any problems to appropriate channels.
• Utilize the PACS system to obtain additional study data.
• Evaluate patient understanding and consent for procedures, taking their condition into account.
• Adapt procedure plans based on patient needs and provide appropriate instruction in self-breast examination.
• Assess patients' physical conditions and create action plans for examinations.
• Determine if additional medical personnel or equipment are necessary and act accordingly.
• Evaluate the appropriateness of patient requisitions and orders, ensuring correct examinations are performed.
• Verify patient identity and obtain relevant medical history prior to examinations.
• Review radiographic orders and images to ensure accuracy in demographics and information.
• Perform and assist with radiographic procedures while documenting outcomes in the information system.
• Notify appropriate personnel regarding patient status throughout the procedural process.
• Precept new employees and students as needed.

Required Education

• Associate's degree or completion of an accredited Radiologic Sciences Program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Sciences, or registry eligible with a requirement to become registered within one year from date of hire.
• Maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
