Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Cath Lab provides competent clinical nursing care aligned with professional standards. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital environment while reporting to the Nurse Manager or Director.

Essential Duties:

• Education:
  • Identifies and addresses personal learning needs.
  • Attends educational programs based on identified needs.
  • Utilizes relevant patient education materials.
  • Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates developmental levels of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance for revising care plans.
  • Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
  • Communicates pertinent information to ensure continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex issues.
  • Performs bedside point of care testing as required.
  • Adheres to healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
  • Consults appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues.
• Leadership:
  • Develops goals for professional growth with guidance.
  • Achieves specified goals within the identified time frame.
  • Participates in unit goal development and performance improvement activities.
  • Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
  • Provides feedback to co-workers and is aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and secure environment.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes and synthesizes data from complex situations to prioritize patient care.
  • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs for patients and families.
  • Builds relationships with families to empower them for advocacy.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to develop or update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning patient care.
  • Prioritizes tasks for complex patient care effectively.
• Research:
  • Reviews relevant professional journals and articles.
  • Engages in discussions with staff about applicable ideas and inquiries.

Skills & Experience:

• Required: Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
• Preferred: Experience in Cardiac Cath Lab or Acute Cardiac Care.
• Epic experience is essential.

Education:

• Required:
  • Nursing Diploma or
  • ADN or ASN from an accredited nursing school.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Certifications & Licensure:

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC).
• Preferred Certifications:
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
