Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical and Telemetry care. The RN will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Shift and Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekends: Every other weekend required
• Holidays: Every other holiday required
• Shifts: 0700-1930, 1100-2330, 2300-0700
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling based on staffing needs

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 15
• Nurse to Patient Ratios:
  • Day shift: 1:4-5
  • Night shift: 1:5-6
• Common Diagnoses & Patient Types:
  • Post-Surgical (Orthopedic, Urology, GYN/ONC, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, ENT, Plastics, GI)
  • Acute Medical patients with short anticipated length of stay
• Equipment: CPAP, BIPAP, High Flow Oxygen Therapy (No vents available)
• Respiratory Therapy support is present

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines and standards
• Monitor and manage patient vitals and titrate medications, including Heparin, Nitro, Cardizem, and Insulin
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans
• Engage in patient and family education regarding care and treatment
• Maintain a clean and professional work environment, adhering to established protocols

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Capability to read telemetry strips; Telemetry Technicians available for support
• Must be able to float to other adult medical/surgical nursing units as needed

Orientation and Training

• Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation based on skills

Additional Information

• Nursing Assistants present to support nursing staff during specified hours
• Charge Nurse takes assignment on all shifts; House Supervisor present on all shifts
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs that are clean and professional
