Position Summary:

The Cardiac Specialty Surgical Technologist provides specialized scrub support for complex cardiac, congenital, hybrid, transcatheter, and robotic-assisted procedures. This role involves managing cardiac instrumentation, implants, grafts, valves, and devices while anticipating the needs of the surgeon and the multidisciplinary cardiac operating room (OR) team.

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 0700–1530, depending on OR case load. Some weeks may consist of four 10-hour shifts based on the OR schedule and case volume.

Call Requirement:

Clinicians will participate in a rotating call schedule, with 1st call one week and 2nd call the following week. Call begins at the end of the scheduled workday and continues until the following morning.

Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or nationally certified surgical technologist.
• Two to four years of surgical technologist experience in an acute care setting preferred.
• Experience in cardiac and congenital heart surgery strongly preferred.
• AHA BLS certification required.
• CST certification highly preferred.
• Experience with cardiopulmonary bypass and perfusion workflows preferred.
• Experience with hybrid OR, transcatheter, or robotic-assisted procedures preferred.
• Must be willing to participate in the alternating call requirement.
• Must be comfortable working in a high-acuity pediatric cardiac OR environment.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary scrub technologist for complex cardiac and congenital heart procedures.
• Prepare and manage specialized cardiac instruments, implants, grafts, valves, and devices.
• Set up and maintain the sterile field.
• Perform surgical counts and participate in the surgical time-out.
• Support specimen handling according to hospital policy.
• Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, perfusionists, anesthesia providers, RNs, and other surgical staff.
• Support cardiopulmonary bypass, hybrid OR, cardiac catheterization, and robotic procedures as necessary.
• Maintain physician preference cards and ensure equipment and supplies are prepared for scheduled cases.
• Anticipate procedural needs and respond calmly and independently during complex or emergent cardiac procedures.
• Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique, patient safety standards, and cardiac-specific protocols.
