Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in GI Procedures provides professional clinical nursing care in alignment with established standards. This role is accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director and is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process within a hospital environment.
Essential Duties:
- Education:
- Participates in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
- Attends educational programs based on identified needs.
- Uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors influencing their ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes and revises care plans as necessary with guidance.
- Engages with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
- Communicates vital information to ensure continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates proficiency in caring for patients with complex health issues, considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required.
- Follows organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
- Prioritizes and organizes care based on patient and family needs.
- Consults with relevant resources timely for patients with complex issues or high discharge risks.
- Leadership:
- Develops personal and professional growth goals with assistance.
- Aims to achieve objectives within set time frames or renegotiates as needed.
- Facilitates interdepartmental collaboration.
- Contributes to unit goals and performance improvement initiatives.
- Utilizes communication systems effectively.
- Acts to promote cost-effective care.
- Provides constructive feedback to colleagues.
- Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes and prioritizes data from complex situations affecting patient care.
- Synthesizes assessment data effectively before sharing with others.
- Anticipates discharge needs for patients and their families.
- Establishes relationships with families to foster advocacy for patient needs.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to develop or modify care plans.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Employs comprehensive communication strategies in planning.
- Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients facing complex problems.
- Research:
- Engages with literature relevant to practice improvement.
- Presents ideas and inquiries for broader staff evaluation.
Skills and Experience:
- Required: Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
- Preferred: N/A
Education:
- Required: Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited institution.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.
Certifications and Licensure:
- Required: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS
