Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg/PCU/Tele

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Med Surg/PCU/Tele unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and managing the nursing needs of patients in a stepdown environment.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Bed Capacity: 28
• Nurse-Patient Ratios: Days: 1:4-5; Nights: 1:5-6, depending on acuity
• Common Diagnoses:
  • Neuro focus: strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries
  • Thrombectomies, TNK/TPA (24 hours post)
  • Trauma orthopedic injuries: hematomas, bleeds, falls on anticoagulants, farm, and motor vehicle accidents

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical, Progressive Care Unit, or Intensive Care Unit experience required.
• Required Certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Skill Requirements:
  • Must have experience within the last year in a relevant nursing setting.
  • Drip experience is essential; familiarity with titratable and set-rate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, and Insulin is preferred.
  • Experience with Trachs and Vents is essential; willing to train on Vents with the understanding that the RN must be open to learning.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and observe patients for reactions and side effects.
• Assist in the development of individualized care plans.
• Ensure patient comfort and safety at all times.
• Titrate drips as necessary according to patient needs.
• Collaborate with other healthcare team members to provide the best patient care.
• Participate in self-scheduling and manage your own shifts while adhering to unit requirements.

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts, primarily nights; shifts from 7p-7:30a.
• Every other weekend and holiday commitment.
• Self-scheduling available with management oversight for balancing nurse schedules.
• Floating may be required to sister units as necessary.

Dress Code

Solid color scrubs are required for staff on this unit.

Orientation

The orientation process includes one general shift and one shift with a preceptor to familiarize the RN with unit-specific protocols and procedures.
