Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in a trauma stepdown unit. This position involves providing nursing care to multi-system-injured trauma patients and surgical patients within a multidisciplinary team setting.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in the 5 South Trauma Stepdown unit.
• Monitor and evaluate patient status; adjust care plans and interventions as necessary.
• Assist with various procedures, such as IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, and conscious sedation.
• Maintain effective communication and collaboration with medical and multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding care plans and health management.
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies and procedures, as well as state regulations.
• Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• A valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia or a Compact state.
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year of experience in a specialty area.
• Experience in PCU, IMC, Trauma, or Step Down Unit preferred.
• BLS, ACLS certification required; TNCC preferred.
• Ability to perform IV starts, manage ventilators, conduct telemetry monitoring, and provide conscious sedation.
• Willingness to float within the scope of practice to meet facility needs.
• First-time travelers accepted if they have experience in ICU or Trauma.

Schedule

This position is for night shifts, requiring either a 3x12 or 4x12 schedule. Every other weekend is required. Candidates must limit holiday time-off requests to no more than one of the three major holidays.

Additional Information

• Orientation and start dates are held every other Thursday.
• Floor staffing ratios are 1:5 for RNs, and 1:3 in the stepdown unit.
• Travelers may be accommodated for blocked schedule requests.
• Fit Testing is required prior to starting; candidates are responsible for coordinating this through their agency.
