Unit Description

This unit specializes in the care of patients who have undergone bone and joint reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma surgery, or have experienced sports injuries. It includes medical/surgical overflow with remote telemetry monitoring supported by an off-unit station staffed by technicians. Patients are typically 18 years and older, with a standard patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4, occasionally flexing to 1:5. The unit operates under a team nursing model.

Shift Details

• Shift: Nights; 7 PM - 7 AM
• Schedule: Weekdays, every other weekend, with floating as necessary
• Contract Options: 36 or 48-hour workweeks available

Orientation Schedule

Orientation is conducted bi-weekly on Thursdays and Fridays. New hires will participate in a computer lab session on Thursday and meet staff and management on Friday to obtain their schedules and facility access.

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for a diverse population with orthopedic needs
• Monitor and manage telemetry using remote technology
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
• Manage wound care and support devices including CPMs, Constavac, Hemovac, and Wound Vacs
• Utilize skills such as IV insertion and management of medications (Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Argatroban, Amiodarone, Dopamine)

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year in a relevant specialty
• Certifications:
  • BCLS required
  • ACLS and NIH certifications preferred
• Skill Requirements: Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, IV start, and management of specified medications and devices

Additional Requirements

• Ability to float within assigned scope to meet facility needs
• Must comply with flu vaccination requirements unless medically exempt
• Pending licenses are accepted; must hold a valid RN license upon start
• Radius requirement of 100 miles in regard to travel applications
