Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing safe care to patients by adhering to established standards and practices in accordance with professional and institutional guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate Patient Care: Assist registered nurses in planning and coordinating patient care, collaborate with healthcare team members, and engage in performance improvement initiatives. Participate as a support role during surgical procedures. (20%)
• Implement Patient Care: Maintain asepsis, perform scrubbing duties, communicate patient information, and ensure all equipment and supplies are accounted for during patient care. (30%)
• Interpersonal Skills: Communicate effectively with peers, healthcare team members, patients, and visitors. Demonstrate adaptability and promote teamwork while consistently meeting customer service quality standards. (30%)
• Clinical Preceptor: Take on the clinical preceptor role for scrubbing tasks and collaborate with the patient care coordinator and educators to follow the orientation outline. (10%)
• Care of Environment and Equipment: Maintain cleanliness of the unit and equipment used during surgical cases, ensuring proper usage and care. (10%)

Work Environment and Demands

This role requires frequent standing and walking, bending, crouching, and lifting/moving patients with weights up to 50 lbs. Intermittent lifting, pushing, and pulling are also necessary. The position involves frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and may expose the individual to blood, body fluids, or infectious materials in a healthcare environment. The work environment may experience moderate to high noise levels, and the individual is required to work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours, including weekends/holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
• Experience: Preferred one year of clinical operating room experience.
• Licensure/Certification: Current certification in surgical technology is preferred. Must possess a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
• Eligible candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program and maintenance of certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
  • Completion of a surgical technology training program in the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Proof of employment as a surgical technologist prior to January 1, 2008.
  • Active role in federal government service performing related duties.

Schedule Notes

This role is scheduled for 11 weeks, working Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The position does not require on-call hours.
