Job Summary
The Cardiac Cath Specialist assists physicians in obtaining digital radiographic images of the heart, peripheral vessels, and any other required structures.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate radiographic equipment to acquire quality images and pan the radiographic table for physician visibility of desired structures.
- Set x-ray acquisition parameters appropriately for cardiac and peripheral imaging.
- Practice radiation safety using distance and appropriate protective attire.
- Demonstrate knowledge of various procedures and techniques to meet comprehensive patient needs effectively.
- Anticipate patient and physician needs, alert the physician to changes in patient condition, and contribute to an organized and timely plan of care.
- Exhibit expert knowledge in hemodynamics, diagnostic, interventional, and peripheral procedures, including device usage and protocols.
- Perform daily room preparations, quality control checks, and maintain equipment readiness for procedures.
- Manage inventory and ensure adequate stock of supplies for routine case volumes.
- Document necessary data for patient records, reporting, charge entry, and image archiving.
- Retrieve stored information from various systems and verify data entry and accuracy.
- Provide pre-procedure, during-procedure, and post-procedure patient care, including the maintenance of documentation and data entry.
- Prepare scrub tables and patients for procedures while adhering to sterile techniques.
- Prepare lines and devices for the administration of injectable fluids, as well as inject drugs under physician supervision and insert IVs.
- Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on cardiac catheterization lab equipment.
- Initiate service requests for damaged or malfunctioning equipment as necessary.
- May train and educate staff, assign work to other specialists or staff, and prioritize tasks to ensure efficient patient care.
- Focus on quality and accuracy of recorded laboratory data, promptly addressing variances with the physician.

Required Education
- Graduation from a Radiologic Science program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health and Accreditation.
- Graduation from a special procedures program.
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Completion of a course training in cardiac catheterization (transcripts required).

- Certification in Radiation Therapy or Radiology through ARRT.
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification through CCI.

Must have previous experience in one of the following specialties: Cardiac Cath Specialist, Cardiovascular Specialist, Diagnostic Cath Specialist, Interventional Cath Specialist, or Peripheral Diagnostic/Interventional Specialist. Previous experience with Epic is required.
