Registered Nurse / Neuro Med-Surg Tele

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for a Neuro Med-Surg / Telemetry unit. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment, ensuring safety and quality for patients diagnosed with neurological issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with various neurological conditions, including but not limited to CVA, ischemic stroke, epilepsy, seizures, and trauma.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, including continuous bedside EEG monitoring and telemetry.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, while ensuring adherence to established protocols and guidelines.
• Educate patients and families on health management strategies and medication regimens.
• Participate in required training and complete necessary certifications pertinent to unit protocols.

Shift Details

Night shifts: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week.

Patient Care Ratio

Patient to nurse ratio: 1:5.

Floating Requirements

Travelers may need to float to other units (Med-Surg and Med-Surg/Telemetry) based on the hospital's needs while remaining within their scope of practice.

Time Off Policy

• RTO up to 14 days is auto-approved.
• Time off is not permitted during busy seasons such as winter and summer holidays, as well as critical days like Easter and Mother’s Day.

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Med-Surg/Telemetry experience, with a strong background in neurology care.
• CVA/acute stroke care and pre/post-neurosurgery experience required.
• Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and renal failure necessary.
• Familiarity with feeding-tube care, surgical drains, wound care (including wound VAC), and administration of oxygen.
• Maryland or compact RN license required upon submission.
• ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications are mandatory; completion of a Basic EKG assessment before orientation is also required.
• Annual trauma CEs and stroke CEs are required as per unit protocols.
• Experience in a teaching hospital or Level I or II trauma facility is preferred.

Weekend and Holiday Commitment

Every other weekend and holiday coverage is required.

Unit Information

• The unit consists of 36 beds dedicated to Neuro Med-Surg/Telemetry.
• This is a Certified Stroke Center and Level IV Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
• Common patient diagnoses include CVA, ischemic stroke, epilepsy, seizures, post-operative neurosurgery, and ETOH withdrawal.
• Utilizes bedside EEG monitoring, telemetry, and bladder scanning.

Charting System

Cerner is utilized for documentation and patient management.

Scrub Color

Navy blue scrubs are required for all staff members.
