Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our team in a Psychiatric Unit. The RN will provide high-quality care to patients experiencing severe mental illnesses and behavioral issues, including but not limited to schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma. This role will involve working with both adult and pediatric populations in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer medications, including psychotropics and supportive treatments.
• Conduct patient assessments and monitor mental health conditions.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage crisis situations effectively.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Participate in the triage process and fast-track patients as needed.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients.

Shift Details

• Unit Type: Psychiatric Unit
• Shift: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 34.5 hours per week

Qualifications

• Current RN license required.
• Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience is required.
• Preferred experience in acute care settings (MS, MS-Tele, PCU, ICU).
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and one of the following: Handle with Care, TRUST Training, CPI, PMCS, or MOAB.
• Strong de-escalation skills and experience with restraint use are preferred.

Patient Care and Staffing

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:6-12, depending on patient acuity.
• Typical staffing includes Triage RNs and designated RNs for adults and pediatrics.
• Patient Care Technicians are available to assist with essential tasks such as phlebotomy, vital sign monitoring, and one-on-one patient observation.

Work Environment

The Registered Nurse will work in a collaborative setting with access to 24/7 security support. The facility handles a diverse patient population and emphasizes the need for compassionate, patient-centered care. Orientation and training will be provided to familiarize staff with unit-specific protocols.

Additional Requirements

• Must be willing to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotations.
• Floating to other mental health units may be required, with orientation provided for new units.
• Maintaining a flexible and proactive approach to patient care is essential.

Dress Code

Royal blue scrubs are required as part of the dress code.
