Description
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a challenging and fast-paced cardiac telemetry unit. This role requires a strong background in cardiac care and telemetry, with a focus on patient acuity and ratios.
Required Skills and Certifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a similar unit.
- Proficient in IV starts and telemetry monitoring.
- Experience with pre and post-procedure care for cardiac patients, including cardiac drips and PCI.
- Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH.
Job Details
- Target Patient Ratios: 1:5-6, with potential to increase based on unit needs.
- Contracts available for 13-26 weeks.
- Shift Type: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15), primarily on weekends (Friday, Saturday & Sunday).
- 36 hours per week will be offered for this role.
- Call Requirement: Yes, frequency based on patient census.
- Float Requirement: Yes.
Patient Diagnoses
This unit specializes in the management of stable pre/post cardiac interventions, such as pacemaker implantation, defibrillators, and cardiac catheterizations. Other patient conditions include:
- Unstable angina and low-risk chest pain evaluation.
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF).
- Dysrhythmias.
- New CVA and TIA patients.
Special Procedures and Unit Details
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips (e.g., Cardiazem, Dopamine, Amiodarone).
- Fast-paced environment with a typical turnover of 78 to 90 patients per week.
- Additional support from a team lead to assist with admissions and discharges.
- Currently accommodating COVID-positive patients with appropriate respiratory care protocols.
Equipment Used
- Telemetry monitors and pulse oximeters.
- High flow oxygen and non-rebreather masks (specific indications only).
- BIPAP for stable chronic use (with restrictions).
Unit Systems
- Medication Administration: Pyxis.
- Documentation: Dimensions (EPIC).
- Communication: SBAR.
Orientation and Dress Code
- Unit Orientation is 36 hours; travelers must be available daily during the first week.
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, along with Novant t-shirts are acceptable. Jackets must match uniform material and color, and crocs with holes are not permitted.
