Job Summary
The Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality care to adult and geriatric patients with general medical and surgical conditions. The role includes participation in a team environment, ensuring the delivery of optimal patient care, and adhering to unit protocols and procedures.
Required Skills and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred for night shift travelers
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour shifts from 06:45 to 19:15
- Contracts accepted for 36 and 48 hours; longer contracts of 13-26 weeks are also available
- Call as needed
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations
- Every other weekend required
- Must be available to work holidays
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:6
Responsibilities
Contract staff will be expected to participate in the Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, and may be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. Consolidation to a centralized office mid-contract may occur, with pre-assignment to units as needed.
Meetings
All travelers and staff are required to attend unit team meetings, which are scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month from January through October at 17:30. In November and December, meetings will take place on the third Wednesday at 17:30. Additional meetings for night shift staff will occur at 07:30 on the Friday immediately following the Wednesday meetings.
Patient Diagnoses
Patients include adults and geriatrics, primarily general medical and surgical patients, with a daily census of approximately 43.
Special Procedures / Unit Details
- Administration of Heparin Drips
- Wound Vacuum Dressing Changes
- High Flow Oxygen therapy
- Limited short-term BiPAP with respiratory support; no additional training is needed for med/surg nurses, and there will be no PCU level patients on this unit.
Unit Systems
- Medication Management: PYXIS
- Documentation: EPIC
- Communication: SBAR
Orientation
Unit orientation will be provided for a duration of 24 hours.
Scrubs
Navy scrubs are required.
Additional Information
Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to the start for this specialty. Local candidates are accepted at a local rate.
