Job Summary
The Night Nurse provides nursing care services in accordance with the responsibilities of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Observe and report symptoms and conditions of residents.
- Administer medications as prescribed by a physician.
- Provide treatments as ordered by healthcare providers.
- Count and maintain records of narcotics.
- Maintain comprehensive records reflecting resident condition, medication, treatments, and progress.
- Transcribe physician's written and telephone orders.
- Place drug orders as necessary.
- Assist with completion of nursing history and assessments, including MDS and care plans.
- Assist in the orientation and supervision of nursing staff.
- Perform direct resident care as needed.
- Conform to recognized nursing practices along with facility policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing in-service education.
- Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed.
- Prepare and coordinate CNA assignments.
- Communicate with physicians about resident status and arrange tests, labs, x-rays, and medical appointments.
- Support physicians during rounds and prepare charts for signatures.
- Ensure accuracy of meal trays for residents.
- Supervise Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) directly.
- Perform all required treatments and assessments.
- Facilitate resident admissions and discharges.
- Notify MD/NP of any changes in resident status.
- Inform family members and healthcare providers of changes in treatment status.
- Document nursing notes and updates to care plans.
- Report to Nursing Managers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to fifty pounds.
- Ability to push/pull forty pounds.
- Able to stand for up to four hours per day.
- Capable of bending, squatting, and stooping to floor level.
- Able to kneel and walk as required.
- Able to reach heights of up to four and one-half feet.
- Ability to see and hear with or without prostheses.
- Able to move intermittently and cope with physical and mental job stress.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to recognize changes in residents' conditions and take necessary action.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English in a legible and understandable manner.
- Current CPR/AED Certification.
Education
Must be licensed in the state as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse and graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
Additional Requirements
Holiday coverage may be required.
