Job Overview
The PACU Registered Nurse plays a critical role in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, providing essential care for patients recovering from anesthesia after surgical procedures. This position requires the ability to manage high acuity patients, including pediatric cases, and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Care for all surgical specialties, including adult and pediatric patients.
- Monitor patients post-procedure from ICU, Cath Lab, Endoscopy, and IR.
- Utilize Epic for charting, AcuDose Medication Dispensing, Phillips monitors, vents, and BiPap.
- Participate in varied weekend rotations and occasional night shifts as necessary.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in PACU nursing.
- Experience in large hospitals (250+ beds) is preferred.
- Must be certified in ACLS, BLS, and PALS from the AHA.
- Ability to care for pediatric patients (average of 5 to 15 children per day).
- Acute care or hospital experience is required; outpatient surgery center experience is not suitable.
- Critical care experience is a plus.
Unit Information
The PACU unit consists of an 18-bay Phase I area and a 14-bay Phase I area, accommodating a wide range of surgical recovery needs. The nurse-to-patient ratio aligns with ASPAN standards of 1:1 or 2:1.
Training and Orientation
New hires will undergo basic hospital orientation, followed by unit-specific training with a Buddy RN for support and guidance.
Dress Code
Hospital-provided scrubs are mandatory while on duty.
