Job Description

The Registered Nurse in Wound Care will be responsible for evaluating and assessing wounds and ostomies, performing wound care such as dressing changes and debridement, and assisting with ostomy procedures. This role involves collaboration with inpatient departments to ensure continuity of patient care.

Inpatient Nurse Responsibilities

• Consult on inpatients for wound/ostomy care as requested by physician or nursing orders.
• Act as a resource and educator for inpatient nursing staff regarding wound care, skin care, ostomy care, pressure ulcer prevention, and continence issues.
• Educate patients and families on wound, ostomy, and skin care.
• Empower nursing staff to provide quality skin, wound, and ostomy care.
• Manage urinary and bowel dysfunction issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and education.
• Utilize appropriate resources for patient care, including VNA and DME services.
• Follow safety protocols to ensure optimal patient care and safety.
• Manage outpatient ostomy patient scheduling and clinic visits.
• Keep knowledge current on wound care and ostomy products.

Outpatient Wound Center Responsibilities

• Demonstrate knowledge of the target patient population and wound care products.
• Document nursing care and education consistently.
• Perform wound care using clean technique per established competency.
• Participate in emergency protocols and activities as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and demonstrate involvement in departmental activities.
