Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room

Summary

The competent Nurse, in a clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. The role involves providing both routine and complex care with the ability to focus on long-range goals and plans. The Nurse continues to develop skills to cope with and manage contingencies in clinical nursing. This position also includes making appropriate assignments and delegating duties to other care providers to manage the clinical environment effectively.

Responsibilities

• Meets expectations of the applicable nursing competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Provides nursing care consistent with the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice.
• Administers medications and treatments according to appropriate protocols, and monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medication administration, and care provided.
• Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies concerns and available resources.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience

• One year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Current BLS certification required (AHA only).
• Current ACLS certification required (AHA only).
• Current PALS certification required (AHA only).
• Current TNCC certification required.
• RN License in state of TX or compact.

Position Requirements

• All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member; initial onboarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and Emergency Department-specific competency validation.
• All newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation. Skills completion and competency will be documented through program tracking software.
• Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.

Work Schedule

12-hour shift from 6 PM to 6 AM.
