Unit Information

The 6 North Intermediate Care unit encompasses 12 beds and utilizes critical care and neuroscience principles at the Intermediate level. This unit primarily cares for patients transferring from the Neuro ICU and manages a variety of complex conditions.

Common Patient Populations

• Patients with neuro trauma
• Subarachnoid, intraventricular, or intracerebral hemorrhages
• ENT patients with cancer undergoing tumor resection and flap reconstruction
• Post-operative spine patients
• A wide range of neurological problems

Role Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse in this unit is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients across multiple neurological conditions while maintaining a patient ratio of 1:3. Duties include:

• Assessing patient conditions and coordinating care plans
• Administering medications and treatments as prescribed
• Monitoring patients’ vital signs and status throughout the care process
• Education and support for patients and their families

Work Schedule

This position is for a day shift, requiring three 12-hour shifts per week from 07:00 to 19:00. The schedule includes:

• 13-week contract
• Every other weekend and holiday
• Must work 2 out of the 3 winter holidays
• Ability to approve time off for up to 40 hours

Qualifications

• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Prior experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Must adhere to float policy within the established healthcare system
• Willingness to submit with a pending Virginia nursing license
