Job Summary:

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager or Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties:

• Education:
  • Identifies and meets learning needs for personal development.
  • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes relevant patient education materials.
  • Assesses patient/family/caregiver readiness to learn.
  • Evaluates factors affecting ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance for revising the plan of care as necessary.
  • Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care evaluations.
  • Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in managing patients with complex issues, considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required by the patient care plan.
  • Follows organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues and discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • With assistance, develops goals for professional growth.
  • Aims to achieve goals within identified timeframes or renegotiates as necessary.
  • Facilitates collaboration between departments.
  • Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Utilizes effective communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
  • Provides feedback to coworkers.
  • Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines impacting healthcare.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes and synthesizes data from complex situations to prioritize care.
  • Includes comprehensive assessments of physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
  • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs for patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families to empower their advocacy for patient needs.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
  • Employs effective communication to convey planning efforts.
  • Addresses cultural and ethnic factors in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrates prioritization of tasks for complex patient issues.
• Research:
  • Engages with relevant journals and articles to enhance practice.
  • Shares ideas and inquiries with staff for assessment of practical applicability.

Required Skills & Experience:

• One (1) year of nursing experience.

Education:

• Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
