Position Summary
Provides quality outpatient and inpatient occupational therapy care, which may include responsibilities at a local Long Term Care facility. Treats patients across all age ranges and diagnoses within the applicable occupational therapy scope of practice. Responsibilities include home visits, village travel, and frequent collaboration with medical providers. Strong didactic skills are required due to Direct Access privileges for occupational therapy. Incorporates evidence-based practices into patient care plans while demonstrating professional conduct, patient care ethics, and respect for cultural diversity. Modifies patient care plans based on age-specific and patient-specific considerations. Supports the organization's mission to achieve excellent health through collaborative efforts.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Occupational Therapy
- Minimum Experience: No minimum clinical experience required, but preferred.
- Licensing/Certification: Must be licensed in good standing as an Occupational Therapist in Alaska or possess a valid license from another state while awaiting licensure in Alaska. Must hold current certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Equipment/Tools
Familiarity with office equipment such as computers, telephones, fax machines, and copy machines. In a hospital-based setting, the environment includes a standard Occupational Therapy Department with hi-lo tables, therapeutic exercise equipment, ultrasound, electric stimulation modalities, and an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training room. For village-based work, a treatment table is typically provided, and the therapist will bring necessary items for patient care, including exercise equipment.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret occupational therapy journals and medical literature.
- Competence in composing patient care documentation and medical correspondence.
- Effective communication skills with medical staff, peers, and administrative personnel.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including those who may have limited English proficiency.
Additional Information
Private housing is not provided; all accommodations are shared units, and pets are not allowed. Initial airfare is the responsibility of the candidate and will be reimbursed upon arrival. A flight itinerary must be submitted at least one week in advance to facilitate arrangements for New Employee Orientation, housing, and related needs. New Employee Orientation is conducted every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Candidates are required to complete the credentialing process before traveling for the position, including submission of:
- Physical address
- Email address
- Phone number
- Date of birth
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Immunization records or titer results for vaccines including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, T-Dap, and Polio
- Copy of photo ID
- Copy of SSN card
- Professional license and/or certification
- Copy of educational transcripts where required
- Background check results (national and criminal)
- 10-panel drug screen conducted within the last 90 days
- Competency testing checklist
- OIG report for all alias names
- SAM report for all alias names
- National Sex Offender registry check for all alias names
- OSHA report
- OFAC report
- Fit test or physical
- Emergency contact information
- Three professional references
Holiday coverage may be required as per organization needs.
