Position Summary
This position is responsible for serving as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN takes responsibility for a group of patients for a specified time frame, implementing the Nursing Process. In the care manager role, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers, including nurses and non-nurses, through delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual in this role must fully understand the operations of Patient Care Services and be able to make sound decisions in various situations.

Essential Functions
- Perform comprehensive assessments focusing on patients' physiological, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
- Implement care knowledgeably and consistently according to established procedures and care plans.
- Identify patient and family learning needs and facilitate education as per policy.
- Document patient care activities accurately in electronic medical records.
- Respect patient rights and maintain sensitivity to cultural and individual differences.
- Delegate patient care activities effectively and supervise coworkers as needed.
- Organize and prioritize tasks utilizing critical thinking skills.
- May function in a charge nurse capacity, coordinating staff assignments and assisting with patient transitions.
- Engage in professional development through ongoing training and affiliations to stay current in nursing trends.
- Adhere to safety protocols and organizational policies.
- Exhibit professionalism in all interactions and maintain appropriate appearance standards.
Work Environment
This role reports to the Nursing Department Director, House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, and other designated supervisory staff. Close collaboration with patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members is essential to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.
Education & Experience
- Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- License: Current RN licensure in Washington State.
- Certification: BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Experience: Preferred acute care nursing experience, with a minimum of one year preferred in specialty areas.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to perform essential nursing functions, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills for logical decision-making.
- Accountability and adherence to ethical guidelines.
- Effective crisis management abilities.
- Competency in caring for diverse age groups.
- Proficiency with equipment relevant to patient care.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and manual dexterity required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs, and perform CPR as needed.
- Emotional stability to manage high-stress conditions in patient care.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with healthcare teams.
PACU Specific Requirements
- ACLS certification to be obtained within six months of hire and renewed every two years.
- PALS or PEARS certification to be completed within six months of hire and renewed every two years.
- CPAN certification is preferred.
- Compliance with continuing education and performance expectations related to procedures for patients undergoing total joint replacement.
Available shifts will be during daytime hours
