Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Med Surg Registered Nurse to provide observation and inpatient care to patients in the Med Surg Unit. The RN will be responsible for assessing and prioritizing patient care, administering nursing procedures, monitoring and reassessing patients, documenting observations and changes in condition, educating patients and families, collaborating with healthcare providers, and supporting continuity of care to help prevent readmission.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or Emergency Room experience required.
• Previous traveler experience required.
• Cerner EHR/EMR experience required.
• Graduate of an accredited RN program required.
• Current Colorado or Compact RN license.
• Current AHA BLS certification required.
• Current ACLS certification required.
• Current PALS certification required.
• Basic computer skills and electronic health record experience required.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide patient care within the RN scope of practice and in accordance with physician orders.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, reassessments, and evaluation of care provided.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and report abnormal findings to the appropriate provider.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely.
• Operate infusion pumps and document accurately in the electronic health record.
• Complete required Cerner documentation in accordance with competencies, training, policies, and procedures.
• Use Care Compass to organize and document assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education.
• Perform age-specific nursing care, including assessment and reassessment of patient condition.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, taking appropriate action when needed.
• Provide patient and family education related to disease process, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
• Transfer care using SBAR format when appropriate.
• Follow infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Collaborate with providers, staff, and other departments to support interdisciplinary patient care.
• Serve as a mentor to other nursing staff and support continuous learning.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role is performed in a hospital setting with exposure to work stress, environmental conditions, frequent interruptions, moderate noise, and regular communication with patients, employees, vendors, and the public. The position requires the ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and assisting with patient movement and positioning. Employees may face potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and physical strain associated with patient care.
