Registered Nurse / Neuro Med-Surg Tele

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Med-Surg Telemetry unit. This position is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with neurological conditions and other clinical needs. The nurse will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered care and support.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with neurological diagnoses such as CVA, epilepsy, and post-operative conditions.
• Monitor patient conditions and record vital signs including EKG readings and telemetry data.
• Perform assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding health conditions and care plans.
• Participate in the continuous evaluation of patient care and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Manage and maintain necessary documentation in Cerner charting system.

Shift and Schedule

This position requires a commitment of 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Every other weekend and holiday are required. Note that time-off requests over 14 days may be auto-approved, while requests during high-demand periods such as holidays may not be permitted.

Floating Requirements

Candidates may be required to float to other units, including Med-Surg and Med-Surg/Telemetry, based on patient care needs.

Patient Ratios

The typical patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:5.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Med-Surg/Telemetry experience and a background in neurology.
• Experience in acute stroke care and pre/post-neurosurgery is required.
• Experience with spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries is essential.
• Proficient in feeding-tube care, renal failure management, surgical drains, wound care, oxygen administration, and isolation/PPE protocols.
• Basic EKG testing is required prior to orientation.
• Maryland RN or compact licensure is required upon submission.

Certifications

• ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications are mandatory.
• Maryland-approved trauma education is required.
• Completion of 8 hours of annual stroke continuing education (CE) and 4 hours of trauma-related CE is necessary.
• TCRN certification is preferred.

Unit Information

The Neuro Med-Surg Telemetry unit is a 36-bed unit that serves as a Certified Stroke Center and Level IV Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. The unit caters primarily to patients with neurological diagnoses, while also functioning as a telemetry overflow unit. Technologies used on the unit include continuous bedside EEG monitoring, telemetry, and bladder scanning.
