Shift Information

0800-1830, 4 days a week with rotating days off throughout the week. One weeknight and two weekend days each month are required for call duties.

Role Overview

This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of surgical operations by providing support during procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the transportation and positioning of patients.
• Prepare the surgical area by assembling and dismantling tables and instruments before and after procedures.
• Prepare patients and operating rooms for planned surgical procedures.
• Open sterile supplies and set up for procedures.
• Complete skin preparation and draping for surgery.
• Assist surgeons with gowning and gloving.
• Pass instruments and suture materials to surgeons as needed.
• Maintain accurate counts of instruments, sutures, and sponges throughout the procedures.
• Apply dressings and bandages, as required, post-surgery.
• Assist in identifying, collecting, and caring for specimens.
• Decontaminate instruments, supplies, and equipment according to established policies and procedures.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Aid in the efficient turnover of the operating room between cases.
• Monitor and restock supplies as necessary.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses and Certification

• Non-Certified: Graduate of an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA, on-the-job training, or military experience as a technician, LPN, dental assistant, ophthalmologic technician, or medical assistant. Evidence of training is required for all on-the-job or military experience.
• Certified: Successful completion of the Certified Surgical Technologist exam through NBSTSA or NCCT is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Experience and Skills

• Technical experience of at least 6 months for non-certified roles, or specialized training through on-the-job or military training.
