Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Behavioral Health team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inpatient mental health care, providing support and treatment for various psychiatric conditions in an acute care setting.
Position Details
- Target Ratios: 1:7
- Shift: Nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours: 36-48 hours per week
- Contract Length: Minimum of 13 weeks, with options available through February 2027
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call Requirement: None
- Float Requirement: Potential to float to med-surg units when needed
Required Skills / Certifications / Experience
- Minimum Experience: 2 years required; 1st time travelers are accepted
- Certifications: MOAB Certification required
- Skills:
- Inpatient mental health care
- Locked unit experience
- Knowledge of substance use/chemical dependency
- Experience with various mental health disorders, including anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and schizophrenia
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Medication administration including antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and sedatives
- Monitoring of vital signs, blood glucose, and lab values
- Wound care and dressing changes
Preferred Skills / Certifications / Experience
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience with congenital/developmental disorders
- Ability to start and maintain IVs
- Experience with profound impulse control issues
Special Procedures / Unit Details
The Behavioral Health unit operates across two floors and emphasizes teamwork. Staff members rotate between both areas and are expected to engage in various acuity levels of care. The unit includes psych techs focused on milieu management and patient monitoring, alongside a therapy team available seven days a week for group sessions. Comprehensive 24/7 nursing support is accessible both in-person and virtually.
Orientation and Training
New hires will undergo a detailed 32-hour orientation that includes hospital-specific training and procedural classes throughout the first week. Attendance is mandatory for all sessions.
