Job Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room is responsible for delivering high-quality medical care in a fast-paced environment. This position involves working with patients across a wide age range, from infants to geriatric individuals, and addressing various medical needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide general medical care and emergency services to patients.
• Assist in skilled nursing care and outpatient care as needed.
• Coordinate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Monitor patient vitals and respond to emergencies effectively.
• Perform necessary procedures based on patient assessments and care requirements.

Working Environment

This role is situated in a 25-bed critical access hospital with an average patient census of approximately 6 patients. The nursing staff to patient ratio is 1:3-4, ensuring comprehensive support and care for all patients.

Shift Information

The RN will work a rotating schedule of day and night shifts, including every third weekend and some holidays. There is no on-call requirement for this position.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of RN experience preferred.
• Current and valid RN license in Minnesota.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC or CALS, and PALS (AHA).

Skills and Competencies

• Strong clinical skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Epic/One Chart.
• Experience with medication administration systems such as Pyxis and IV pumps.
• Ability to collaborate with a team and provide mentorship to newer staff members.

Orientation and Training

New staff members will receive comprehensive orientation and training on-site, including familiarization with EMR and hospital protocols. Pairing with experienced RN staff is part of the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
