Position Overview

The Pediatric Float Pool Nurse will be responsible for providing patient care in various pediatric units, including PICU, NICU, pediatric medical-surgical, pediatric PACU, pediatric emergency department boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby areas. This role requires adaptability and a commitment to high-quality pediatric care across multiple settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Float between various pediatric units as needed to provide patient care.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Utilize evidence-based practices to deliver optimal pediatric care.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, providing updates to the healthcare team.
• Educate families and caregivers on treatment plans and health management.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
• Comfortable providing care to pediatric patients across various settings.
• Two years of PICU experience required.
• Previous float pool experience in NICU and PICU preferred.
• Experience in pediatric PACU highly preferred.
• Must hold BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• Dr. Brown’s Infant Driven Feeding Certification is required; candidates may submit with certification pending (fees apply).
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system is required.
• Must adhere to float pool policies and procedures.
• Virginia nursing license must be active or pending.

Scheduling and Time Off

• This position requires a commitment of 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Every other weekend and holiday work is required.
• Must work two out of three winter holidays.
• Requests for time off are limited; 40 hours can be approved but are not accepted during the first two weeks of the assignment.
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed.
