General DescriptionThe RN is responsible for providing direct patientcare within the scope of their practice. The position is one of providing direct patient care to women in labor,through delivery, postpartum, and to provide direct care to the newborn. Assuring all aspects of maternal childcare. ResponsibilityPerforming assessments, monitoring process oflabor, preparing for C-sections, inductions, and proper documentation ofnursing care. Administer care duringlabor, post-delivery, and postpartum including infant care and providingpatient education. Prepares deliveryroom, provides emotional support, and coordinates transfers. Administer IV medications, adhere toprinciples of infection control and general policies of OB department. Knowledge and/or interest in obstetrics andequipment.AccountabilityThe RN reports directly to the New Beginnings BirthCenter Manager. Special DemandsPhysical: Long periods of standing,walking, and heavy lifting. Exposure toblood and body fluids, unpleasant sights, smells and infectious diseasespossible. QualificationsEducation: RN graduate with currentColorado licensure. Must have current CPR certification. Neonatal Resuscitation Certification and ACLSwithin one year of employment. Experience: 4 years experience in Obstetrics care preferred. Skills: Knowledge of or interest inlearning labor, delivery, postpartum and nursing care essentials. Principles of sterile technique and infectioncontrol. Skilled in technical aspects of mother/infant care. Able to performeffectively in highly stressful situations. Able to interact effectively with awide variety of people and have good communication skills. Working EnvironmentFull Time working 36 hours per week, 7:00p to 7:00a. May rotate shifts and areas as staffing andcensus requiresOn call required.
