The coastal town of Seward sits along Resurrection Bay, inhabited by sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, porpoises, humpbacks and orca whales. It's the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, home to tidewater glaciers and the vast Harding Icefield. Seward is also a paradise for outdoor adventurers. The area offers some of the finest hiking and paddling throughout Alaska, with the chance to paddle to secluded coves around the bay to discover sea lion hangouts, tidewater caves and bird rookeries. The five-mile coastal trail to Caines Head is one of the state's top hikes, and in the quirky downtown area, you'll find colorful murals, a brewery, unique shops and eateries. The Resurrect Art Coffeehouse and Gallery, set in an old church, is an enchanting spot to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and fresh-baked pastry while marveling at the works of local artists on the walls.
