Description
The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting opportunity for a full time Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OI2) for the Naples, Florida location.
The Ophthalmic Imager 2 (OI2) is competent in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. The position documents in the EMR system and performs ocular diagnostic testing using specialized instrumentation in compliance with department standards.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs diagnostic testing including but not limited to the below.
Color fundus photography
Fluorescein angiography
ICG (Indocyanine Green) angiography
Optical coherence tomography
Automated perimetry
Slit lamp photography
External photography
Ocular motility photography
Performs supervised ocular diagnostic testing using specialty-specific imaging instruments, documents procedures, and uploads images into the electronic medical record/PACS platform.
Provides patient-centric care.
Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, and values.
Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.
Completes University of Miami mandatory in-services and online training.
Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.
Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.
Meets daily productivity goals.
Ensures all equipment is calibrated, and instrumentation is in proper working order.
Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications.
Organizes and stock rooms for daily clinical activities.
Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.
Works evenings and weekends as needed.
Performs organizational duties as assigned.
Maintains OPS certifications.
Assists with training of visiting imaging technicians, residents, fellows, and faculty members.
Works with providers, residents, and fellows to provide training and customization of imaging software including hanging protocols.
Acts as preceptor for imaging team members.
Acts as super user for imaging technology implementations and training initiatives.
Supports residents, fellows, and faculty members with imaging presentations.
Performs ocular diagnostic examinations using specialty-specific imaging instruments under anesthesia in the OR.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Certification and Licensing:
OCT-C (Certified Optical Coherence Tomography)
CRA (Certified Retinal Angiographer)
Experience:
2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skill, and Attitudes:
Works well with patients of all age groups.
Presents a professional appearance.
Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills.
Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes, while working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
Completes assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Makes independent, accurate decisions regarding the best use of time.
Seeks out instruction in areas that require additional knowledge.
Works independently and in a collaborative environment.
Displays intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.
Demonstrates basic comprehension of refractometry.
Identifies imaging instruments and modalities based on diagnosis.
Knowledgeable in computer software for all imaging modalities.
Independently performs standardized imaging protocols based on diagnosis.
Competent in stereopsis technique.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
