Gross Weekly Pay: $2,156/week based on 36 hours/week
Orientation is bi-weekly
• 225 bed specialty care hospital
• Region's premier imaging, surgery, and laboratory services
Marquette
• Located in the central region of Michigan's upper peninsula
• Largest community in the peninsula
• Home to Northern Michigan University
The Observation Unit Nurse provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to individuals requiring short-term evaluation and treatment, typically 24-48 hours, to determine the need for admission or safe discharge. This role focuses on rapid assessment, frequent reassessment, care coordination, and timely intervention for patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions. The nurse works in a fast-paced environment, balancing efficiency with compassionate, evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform timely and comprehensive initial assessments and frequent reassessments to monitor patient progress.
• Implement and adjust care plans based on provider orders, patient condition changes, and clinical judgement.
• Administer medications, treatments, IV therapies, and diagnostic prep per protocol.
• Monitor vital signs, labs, and diagnostic results, promptly reporting changes and abnormal findings.
• Provide patient education on diagnosis, treatment plan, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Coordinate care with physicians, case management, and multidisciplinary teams to support timely disposition.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record.
• Facilitate efficient admission, transfer, and discharge workflows.
• Support safe and smooth transitions of care, including follow-up appointments and patient teaching.
• Respond to urgent situations and perform emergency interventions within scope of practice.
• Maintain compliance with infection control standards, patient safety protocols, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance patient experience, throughput, and clinical outcomes.

• Must Have Skills/Experience: 1 year med/surg experience
• Preferred Skillset/Experience: telemetry experience
• Common Diagnosis/Treatment: Any patient meeting observation status criteria, for ex. Chest pain, asthma exac, TIA, Abd Pain, Urinary issues, Blood sugar issues, DVT/PE, Cellulitis, Post procedural monitoring, minor trauma.
