Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a high-acuity cardiac center of excellence, requiring a minimum of 1 year of acute care PCU experience and current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Details
- Located in a surgical cardiology PCU on the 5th floor of a main hospital tower
- 30-bed unit staffed by RNs and PCTs, with a team of approximately 65 staff members
- Patient ratios are typically 1:4, with a possible 1:5 ratio
- Typical cases include post-cath care (right and left heart caths, TAVRs, ablations, Watchmans, pacemaker implantations), post-thoracic surgery (VATs/RATs, resections, lobectomies), pre- and post-op open-heart surgery (CABGs, MVRs, AVRs, aortic dissection repairs), and vascular surgery post-op care
- Equipment used includes telemetry monitors, transport monitors, suction, feeding pumps, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, heated high flow, chest tubes, Foley catheters, pacer wires/pacers, IV pumps, and SCD pumps
- EMR system: Meditech
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CO RN license or active Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the start date)
- Minimum 1 year of recent acute care PCU experience required
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration — no exceptions; no Canadian SSNs accepted
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Preferred skills include chest tube management (including removal), pacer wire removal, 12-lead EKG interpretation, O2 management up to BiPAP and heated high-flow, and drip management (heparin, diltiazem, amiodarone, Lasix, dobutamine, milrinone, ketamine)
- Responsibilities include performing TR band management, neurovascular checks, and supporting a wide range of cardiac and thoracic surgical patients throughout recovery
- Fast-paced, high-acuity unit at a recognized cardiac center of excellence
- Ideal candidates are collaborative team players who are high-energy, flexible, and value open communication
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates will not be considered
- First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible; a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience is required per HCA guidelines for this region
