Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Telemetry position requiring at least one year of nursing experience, EPIC proficiency, and an active SD or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 36-48 bed Medical unit with flexible semi-private rooms
- Mixed patient population spanning Med/Surg to Intermediate Care (IMC) acuity levels, including long length of stay patients
- Common diagnoses include DKA, pre/post-surgical care, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal and hepatic failure, GI disorders, soft tissue injuries, DVTs, and occasional CVA overflow
- Administer oral, IV, IM, and SQ medications, titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions
- Manage peripheral IV, midline, PICC, and central line access, chest tubes, NG tubes, drains, and urinary/fecal collection devices
- Perform telemetry monitoring, cardiac strip interpretation, and preventative/restorative skin and wound care
- Patient ratios vary by pod: 1:5-6 for long length of stay, 1:5 for Med Surg/Telemetry, and 1:4 for Intermediate Care
- 12-hour day shifts totaling 48 hours per week on a 6-week rotating schedule
- Weekend rotation of up to 4 out of 6 weekends, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- No mandatory on-call requirement, though optional extra on-call shifts may be available
- Floating required to any adult inpatient unit including Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and Observation, in rotation with other travelers
- Uses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) currently in hand
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- EPIC experience required, especially for first-time travelers
- Must be comfortable taking Med/Surg assignments
- Prior experience with IMC/stepdown and neuro patient populations preferred
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Skilled in wound care, line management, and drain/tube management
- Comfortable with drip titration including Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), and occasionally Esmolol or other antihypertensives
Additional Information
- Support staff includes CNAs (1:8 ratio), a non-patient-load charge nurse, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, and hospitalist coverage
- Orientation includes two days of unit/department orientation and two shifts working with a preceptor
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Monthly audits are conducted for pre/post pain scoring with a 90% compliance requirement
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Free parking available
- Time off requests up to a week and a half may be approved, with extensions required for a full week off
- Blackout dates apply from August 1-18 due to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, with no time off approved during this period
- Holiday RTO requests require manager approval, particularly around winter holidays
- Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
- First-time travelers will be considered if they have more than one year of experience and EPIC proficiency
