Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a float pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 18 months MedSurg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner.

Details

• Staff Float Pool MedSurg position within a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
• May be assigned to units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology
• Patient ratios range from 1:4-6 depending on unit
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 36-48 hours per week on a 4-week schedule cycle
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to like units (MedSurg to MedSurg/ICU tasks/ER or MedSurg holds; ICU to ICU/MedSurg tasks (limit of 3)/ER or ICU holds)
• EMR: Cerner, with Epic experience considered
• Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
• RNs required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours, with monitoring support from telemetry techs
• Support staff includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL or compact) required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months MedSurg and/or ICU experience required
• Epic or Cerner EMR experience required; Cerner specifically required for candidates with strictly ICU experience
• Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, trach care, PEG, IV starts, central line blood draws, ostomy/colostomy care, and PCA pump management
• Chemo certification preferred for MedSurg/Oncology unit but not required
• Telemetry experience should be disclosed if applicable

Additional Information

• Will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
• RNs expected to turn patients, assist with baths, and perform ADLs given lower patient ratios
• Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
• Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
• Holiday expectations include coverage for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
• Up to 7 days of time off can be approved in advance, excluding facility blackout dates
• Scrubs may be any color
• Free parking available in the designated parking deck (2nd-4th levels)
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
• Candidates must reside outside a 65-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
