Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a Level I Trauma Center offering 12-hour night shifts, requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg/ICU experience and Cerner or Epic proficiency.

Details

• Staff Float Pool MedSurg unit within a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
• Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation, which may include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology units
• Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 36-48 hours per week on a 4-week self-scheduling cycle via Smart Square
• Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to like units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
• EMR: Cerner (Epic experience also considered)
• Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
• Telemetry monitored by techs, but RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours

Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience required
• Cerner or Epic EMR experience required; Cerner specifically required if experience is strictly ICU-based
• Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tube management, NGT/PEG care, trach care, IV starts, central line blood draws, ostomy care, and medication administration/documentation
• Chemo certification preferred for Oncology unit assignments
• First-time travelers accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including turning, bathing, and ADL assistance, especially under lower patient ratios
• Support staff includes CNAs (1:10-12 ratio), HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry techs
• Orientation for new or returning travelers (gone 1+ years) includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved in advance, excluding facility blackout dates
• Scrub color is unrestricted
• Free parking available in designated parking deck levels
• Previous staff must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning as a traveler
• Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
