Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2 years of PICU experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) of a hospital setting
  • 13-week assignment with rotating day and night shifts (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:00 or 19:00-7:00)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Requires working 3 weekends per six-week schedule
  • Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
  • May be required to float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs
  • Patient ratio of 1:2

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license (pending license accepted)
  • BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR charting experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Trauma Level I hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in respiratory care including ventilator management, ETT/NT suctioning, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation
  • Experience with IV therapy, central line management, and administration of blood products
  • Proficient in administering emergency and pediatric medications, including vasopressors and continuous sedation
  • Cardiovascular skills including CVP monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and telemetry monitoring
  • Renal/GU skills such as CRRT and urinary catheter management preferred
  • Neurologic care experience including EVD and ICP monitoring
  • Two professional references required
  • Copies of required certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct bedside care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team to manage complex pediatric conditions
  • Float within scope of practice to other pediatric units as needed based on facility staffing needs
  • Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding
  • Maximum of 40 hours of requested time off per 13-week contract, with no additional time off approved after the first two weeks of the assignment
  • Candidates with prior UVA Health employment as permanent staff or travelers must have at least a 1-year separation and leadership approval
  • External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this position
