Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU Float Pool position requiring 1 year of ICU experience and the ability to float across multiple critical care units.
Details
- Float pool position covering ICU, PCU/CCU, CVICU, and ED holding areas within the hospital
- Cares for critical care patients including COVID, neuro, trauma, medical, surgical, and CVICU post-op cases (CABG, esophagectomy, TAVR, AAA repair, thoracic and vascular surgeries)
- Does not manage fresh CABG/TAVR patients, EVDs, post-TPA patients, or devices such as ECMO, IABP, Impella, or hypothermia protocol
- Patient ratios are 1:2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU/ACC/CCU, with ER holding ratios based on level of care
- Requires Epic EMR experience
- 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week, scheduled every other weekend with occasional back-to-back weekends
- Schedules are created in 3-week blocks and provided 7-10 days in advance with no self-scheduling
- Floats to Neuro/Trauma/Medical/Cardiac ICU, CCU, PCU/ACC, ED Holding, Med Surg units, and surge areas as needed
- May occasionally float to a nearby sister hospital approximately 2.5 miles away with advance notice
- 24/7 support available from Hospitalist, RT, and Intensivist, with Cardiologist on call for CVICU, CCU, and Cardiac Short Stay
Requirements
- Active WA state or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
- Strong skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent and BiPAP management, invasive line management, ostomy care, general drains, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and IV medication titration
- Epic charting experience required
- Must complete and pass a Traveler Telemetry Competency exam prior to start
Additional Information
- Responsible for hourly rounding, whiteboard documentation, and bedside shift report
- Must document pain assessments before and after administering pain medication (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral)
- Two-nurse verification required when wasting narcotics or benzodiazepines
- Saline flushes are considered medication and must not be left at bedside or in scrub pockets
- Medications must not be left in an unlocked cart
- Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable
- Free parking available in designated areas
- Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation, 1 day (12 hours) of ICU unit orientation, and 1 day (12 hours) on like units
- Time off requests beyond 5 days require manager approval
- First-time travelers with strong ICU and float pool experience will be considered
