Description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry/PCU RN with cardiac drip experience and EPIC proficiency for a 12-hour night shift position requiring VA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • PCU/Telemetry unit with floating required to Medical, Surgical, Overflow, and Observation floors as needed
  • Units include PCU (36 beds), Medical (36 beds), Overflow (11 beds), Observation (15 beds), and Surgical (42 beds)
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 on PCU, Overflow, and Observation; 1:5 (rarely 1:6) on Medical and Surgical units
  • Common diagnoses include stroke r/o, chest pain, arrhythmias, abdominal pain, post-surgical care, altered mental status, dehydration, AKI, CHF, GI hemorrhage, sepsis, and respiratory failure
  • Uses RT equipment such as CPAP and high flow oxygen; RNs must be familiar with adjusting O2 or responding to changes
  • RNs perform their own EKG/strip interpretation with off-site monitoring support
  • Patient care techs available with ratios of 1:8-11 depending on the unit; some units have unit secretaries
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required in a 6-week period
  • Possible occasional floating to ICU for lower acuity holds or ER for boarders

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • 1-2 years of experience with proficiency in neuro assessments and basic cardiac drips
  • Required experience with cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin drips, including titration
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Must be able to read/interpret EKG strips and pass an ECG exam

Additional Information

  • Responsible for titrating cardiac drips and monitoring for changes requiring physician notification
  • Orientation includes 3 shifts across 3 different units in addition to general facility orientation
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday
  • Overtime opportunities may be available
  • Scheduling coordinated by administrative staff, with travelers expected to remain flexible to unit needs
