Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit requiring couplet care, c-section circulating skills, and AWHONN-Advanced certification.

Details

• Work in the Family Birthing Center (L/D, PP & OB) of an acute care hospital
• High-risk unit providing couplet care with 10 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, and 12 postpartum beds
• 3 OB-ED triage beds and 3 antepartum testing beds used for OB-ED overflow
• Unit averages 140-165 births monthly
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:3-4 couplets, 1:1-2 L&D, 1:1-3 antepartum
• Common diagnoses include preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, cesarean sections, and hypertension
• Must be comfortable managing all aspects of LDRP care from start to finish
• Must be able to circulate C-sections
• Required to titrate drips, commonly Pitocin
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor generally does not take patients but assists with break relief
• OB surgical techs available on the unit
• OB hospitalist in house 24/7, Neonatologist on call 24/7 and rounding daily, Anesthesia in house 24/7
• No ventilators used on this unit
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips on mothers in PACU only
• Uses GE Corometric fetal monitors with Fetalink surveillance system
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• 12-hour night shifts, shift starts at 6:45pm, bedside report
• Every other weekend required, rotates holidays with staff
• On-call response time of 30 minutes if placed on call
• Overtime and extra shifts available
• Floating required to all other Sacramento facilities, with mid-shift floats to another facility being rare
• No in-house floating required
• Scrubs provided
• May be assigned the NRP ("Baby Catcher") role for the entire shift depending on staffing needs

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and AWHONN-Advanced
• STABLE certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
• Must be comfortable circulating C-sections
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• 2 supervisor references required, one within the last 12 months worked and one within the last 3 years worked
• Copy of driver's license required at time of consideration to validate legal name

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery, postpartum, and OB nursing care in a high-acuity couplet care model
• Assist with newborn resuscitation as needed when assigned the NRP role
• Collaborate with OB hospitalists, on-call neonatologists, anesthesia, and OB surgical techs
• Travelers will be scheduled for 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's), with holiday time off considered but not guaranteed
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
