Description
American Traveler is hiring a Trauma/Neuro ICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring 3+ years of trauma and neuro ICU experience with a CA RN license.
Details
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit setting within a Trauma ICU
- Patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics
- 1:2 patient ratios
- Night shift, 4x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
- Floating required within the service line, including to a nearby hospital approximately 15 minutes away
- Advance notice provided if floated, with a 1-hour paid orientation for the floated facility
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required (EMSA not accepted)
- Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC or TCAR certifications required
- CPI or MAB certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience required
- Trauma and Neuro ICU experience required and must be reflected in work history
- Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Recent Nursys report required
- One supervisory reference required
- Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, multi-system organ failure care, IV insulin protocols, GI surgery, and renal failure management
- Experience with CVVHD/CRRT, shunts, and fistula care
- Proficient in arterial line management, central line and PICC line care, and blood product administration
- Experience starting IVs and administering continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation
- Skilled in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience with CVA/acute stroke management, EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgery care
- Familiarity with hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun and spinal cord injury/TBI management
- Experience assisting with chest tube insertion/removal and BiPAP/CPAP management
- Skilled in ventilator management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Knowledge of infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE use
- Experience with phlebotomy and surgical wound/wound vac care
- COVID vaccination required
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to trauma and neuro ICU patients with complex, multi-system needs
- Strict adherence to accurate charting required due to extensive unit chart audits
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and remain engaged in unit-specific training
- Positive learning attitude required for onboarding into unit protocols
- All requested time off must be submitted prior to consideration, as post-submission RTO changes are not accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply if minimum qualifications are met
- Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
- Skilled in pupillometry and hourly neuro checks
- Familiarity with massive transfusion protocol and 12-lead EKG acquisition
