Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a night shift Observation Unit role requiring 2+ years of observation experience and an active MI RN license.
Details
- Observation Unit within a 328-bed medical center offering Level II trauma care
- Provides care for outpatients assigned to observation status
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required (compact license not accepted)
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required
- 2+ years of Observation experience required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Skills checklist pertinent to Observation specialty, current within 1 year, required for consideration
- 2 supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years required for consideration
Additional Information
- Assess, implement, and monitor patient care plans for observation patients
- Provide direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, and responding to alarms and call lights
- Evaluate treatment plan effectiveness and collaborate with the care team to update plans as needed
- Process and follow up on physician orders accurately and in a timely manner
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered
- No more than 5 days of RTO can be requested during the assignment

Subpar pay (non-competitive with regional hospitals). Starting pay for a RN is 32.90 per hour in 08/2026. Other area hospitals like covenant and McLaren Bay City start out in the $40+/hr range. Lots of drama with coworkers, but that’s everywhere.
