Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU night shift position requiring critical care skills such as ventriculostomy management and acute stroke care.

Details

• Acute care setting in an 18-bed Neuro ICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Patient population includes ventric patients, strokes with/without tPA, and post-craniectomy cases
• Manages ventriculostomies, arterial lines, central lines, and ventilators
• Titrates a wide variety of drips per physician orders
• Reads and interprets own telemetry strips using Philips monitors, with a dedicated tele tech on every shift
• Supported by charge nurses and 24/7 house supervisor coverage
• Nurse aide/PCT support available at a 9:1 ratio
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Rotating every other holiday required
• Travelers float first to any unit in the hospital, including intermediate care (1:3 ratio) and general floors (1:4 ratio)
• No call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active IL RN license or proof application has been initiated
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA)
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• NIH Stroke Scale certification and experience with acute stroke management required
• Experience with ventriculostomy, ventilators, arterial lines, and central lines required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• BSN not required
• Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical patients
• Troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices
• Unit-specific orientation includes 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
• COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
• Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate but no radius rule applies to eligibility
• First-time travelers may be considered
