Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/MS Float position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a VA or compact RN license and comfort floating between PCU and Med-Surg units.

Details

• PCU Float unit covering both PCU and Medical-Surgical units
• Night shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
• Requires EPIC EMR experience
• Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, with potential to float 2-3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 shifts within a 6-week block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• PCU average patient ratio of 5:1 and MS average ratio of 6:1, may flex up to 7:1
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks

Requirements

• Active VA state or compact RN license required; single-state license from non-compact state accepted pending approval
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CPI, NIHSS, and Trauma certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Experience in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration required
• Skilled in central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and titrating cardiac drips
• Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, and administering IV insulin
• Background in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC) required
• Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings required
• Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
• Experience caring for ventilated patients preferred
• PICC line management and peripheral line care experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care across PCU and Medical-Surgical units, requiring flexibility to float as needed
• Work at a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
• Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with an academic medical school
• Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are not accepted unless residing more than 100 miles from the facility, with limited exceptions for closer candidates under specific conditions
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a break of at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days at the facility are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, though exceptions may be reviewed case by case
